Step 1 - Turn on your devices
- Make sure your Chromebook laptop is turned ON.
- Also, ensure that your HP printer is powered up.
Step 2 - Connect to a wireless network
Connect both the Chromebook laptop and the HP printer to the same wireless network. For this, carry out the following instructions.
Method 1 - HP printer with touchscreen panel
- On the printer’s touchscreen control panel, navigate to the Setup menu.
- Scroll down and select the Network Setup option.
- Choose the Wireless Setup Wizard option.
- The printer searches for wireless routers. Once done, you will see the available SSIDs list.
- Find your network name (SSID) and select it.
- On the Enter Wireless Password field, type your network key or password.
- On the Confirm Settings screen, check if the displayed wireless network information is correct. If so, select the OK option to proceed further.
- Wait until you see the Connection Successful screen on the display panel. This means that the printer is connected to your wireless network successfully.
- Select the OK option to complete the wireless setup.
- Start from step 3 to scan a document from your printer to Chromebook.
Method 2 - HP printer without touchscreen panel
- On the printer’s control panel, hold the Wireless and Cancel buttons at the same time.
- Release the buttons once the Power LED starts flashing.
- Wait until the Wireless LED starts to blink.
- Once done, hold the WPS or Wi-Fi Protected Setup button on your router’s front panel.
- If the connection is established successfully, the Wireless LED on the printer’s control panel stays lit.
2. Connect the Chromebook laptop to a wireless network
- On the laptop’s home screen, click the time at the bottom.
- Once you select Not Connected, enable the Wi-Fi feature.
- Choose your network and enter the password.
- This will connect the Chromebook laptop to the same wireless network as the printer.

Step 3 - Obtain the printer’s IP address
Method 1 - HP printer with touchscreen panel
- Select the Setup option followed by the Network Setup option on the printer’s touchscreen panel.
- Now, you will see the printer’s IP address on the display panel. Make a note of it.
Method 2 - HP printer without touchscreen panel
- On most HP printers, hold the Wireless and Information buttons to print a network configuration page.
- Find the printer’s IP address on the printed page.
- Note it down correctly.
Step 4 - Load documents
- Lift-open the scanner lid/cover.
- On the scanner glass, place the document for scanning.
- Close the printer’s scanner lid/cover.
- Proceed further to scan a document from your printer to Chromebook.
Step 5 - Scan setup
- On the Chromebook laptop, launch the Chrome browser.
- Now, type the printer’s IP address in the address bar and press the Enter key.
- When the Embedded Web Server page appears, click the Settings tab at the top.
- Click the Security tab followed by the Administrator Settings tab in the left panel.
- In the Redirecting to Secure Page dialog box, click the OK button.
- If you see the Your connection is not private message, click the Advanced button followed by the Proceed button.
- In the main panel, select the Enable from EWS checkbox.
- Click the Apply button followed by the OK button.
- Continue with the following steps to scan a document from your printer to Chromebook.
Step 6 - Scan from your Chromebook using EWS
- Navigate to the Scan tab at the top of the page.
- Choose the PDF option from the Document Type drop-down menu.
- If necessary, specify the other scan settings.
- Once done, click the Start Scan button.
- In the Starting Webscan box, click the OK button.
Step 7 - Save the scanned document on your Chromebook laptop
- The printer scans the document and it will be displayed on the laptop screen.
- Now, click the Download icon on the upper-right corner of the page.
- Enter a file name for the scanned document and click the Save button.
- The saved document will be in the Downloads folder.
